APL Photonics Advisory Board selects Kim as member

MSE assistant professor Brian Kim was recently selected as an Early Career Editorial Advisory Board member of APL Photonics, a scientific journal published by the American Institute of Physics. This year saw six new appointees at APL Photonics. The Early Career Editorial Advisory Board appointees were selected by a committee of Editorial Advisory Board members based on applications submitted in April 2024.
Kim was selected for multiple early career successes and his research focusing on quantum materials and heterostructures for a new generation of photonic and quantum technologies.
"It’s fascinating that we can control these materials at an atomic level to create the properties that we want on demand. The potential impact of my research is huge,” Kim said.
“The ability to manipulate 2D and quantum materials with an unprecedented level of precision allows us to ‘program’ properties on demand. This ability will provide a viable route for integrating these exciting materials into many emerging advanced device platforms, including nanoelectronic and nanophotonic technologies, and will also impact quantum science information and technologies."
In 2024, the Association of Korean Physicists in America awarded Kim the Outstanding Young Researcher Award for his work in condensed matter physics and nanotechnology.
