MSE Graduate student wins French award

Gaelle Delaizir from Professor Pierre Lucas' group recently won the Ginest Award for best Ph.D. dissertation in chemistry in recognition of her dissertation entitled “Nanoporous Glass-Ceramics Transparent in Infrared Range to Be Used as Optical Sensor”. The “Prix Gineste” is awarded yearly to the best PhD dissertation in the province of Brittany in France. The price has been awarded since 1961.

Gaelle graduated as part of a joint Ph.D. program between the UA Department of  Materials Science and Engineering and the Chemistry Department at the University of Rennes in France. During her completion of the joint program, Gaelle satisfied the graduation requirements from both institutes and simultaneously earned a Ph.D. from U of A and a Doctorate from the University of Rennes.
