Guiru Nash Liu
Guiru Nash Liu is a global professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. She received her BS from Tianjin University, P.R. China, an MS from the University of Southern California and a PhD from Illinois Institute of Technology, all in materials science and engineering.
Prior to joining the University of Arizona, Nash Liu was a senior experimental metallurgist at Progress Rail, a Caterpillar Company and an adjunct professor at Illinois Institute of Technology. She is a resident fatigue expert. Her primary responsibilities are improving the reliability of locomotive/engine components.
Nash Liu serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Materials Science and for the Journal of Metallography, Microstructure and Analysis. She was elected a fellow of ASM International in 2020. She was the recipient of the Allan Ray Putnam Service Award of ASM International in 2022 and was awarded the Caterpillar CEO Award in July 2022. She was one of the founding members of the Failure Analysis Society (FAS) of ASM International. She has authored more than 1540 internal publications and 14 peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
