Zhang Discusses Quantum Technology on Arizona Science Podcast
MSE assistant professor Zheshen Zhang recently appeared on Arizona Public Media's podcast Arizona Science to discuss how quantum technology can vastly improve communication and sensing capabilities.
"Currently we use sensors almost everywhere in our real-world applications. Each mobile device is equipped with tens to hundreds of sensors, and they undertake different tasks, including capturing pictures or detecting motion," Zhang said. "But our current sensing technology has its limitations."
Zhang goes on to say how quantum technology may hold the key to overcoming both the technical and even theoretical limitations of our current technology.
Zhang is also part of the $115 million Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems Center, led by the U.S. Department of Energy's Fermilab. The center aims to build a quantum computer and develop quantum sensors that could lead to discoveries about dark matter and other elusive subatomic particles.
